Chihuahua, World's Smallest Dog

May 14th is International Chihuahua Appreciation Day so give your pet chihuahua some extra loving to show how much you appreciate them.

Chihuahuas were first introduced to America in the late 19th century. American tourists who were visiting Mexico brought some of these dogs back with them on their return to the States. It is from these first specimens, probably being crossed with English Black and Tan Terriers, that the current smooth coat variety was developed and named for Chihuahua, the Mexican State where the breed was discovered.

The Chihuahua was first registered in Canada in 1928.
